If you cannot make money, why are IBM/Novell moving to open source in such
a big way?
They are forced to do so.
every one knows Netware is not doing well.
IBM : they failed miserably by producing OS/2 and couldn't compete with
Microsoft.
Do you know that Linux based contributes less than 2% of IBM's revenues.
Take embedded / real time Oses.

Big companies have started to rise higher actually... And there is a
difference between opensource and the GPL.
No concrete proof of this. It's just in paper

Though i don't plan to use it, it aptly describes the status, you code is
forced to be released to the community once you use GPL source.
openoffice almost entirely funded by SUN. And staroffice is based on
openoffice.
Could you explain why companies maintain 2 versions one for open source
community and the other one for for thier commercials.
As you said, if they beleive in GPL, why not sun GPL staroffice ?
i also gave an example of RTlinux
- (ii) SCO - initially tried to be a Linux company by acquiring caldera,
didn't work out so pulled out.
Caldera acquired SCO! hehe... :)
Accepted my mistake, but i assume my point is clear.
- (iv) Mandrake became bankrupt.
They've recovered.
