I'm one of the managers of the Chennai .NET User Group Student
Chapter (http://groups.msn.com/cnugstudent). I've been a member of this
this linux group for quite some time though I've never sent a mail. Now,
I'm going to do something that all of you might consider quite
presumptuous of me. I would like to request all those among you
interested in .NET /Mono to join the group.
Now, I'm sure all of you are wondering why I'm asking you guys to sign
up for a group which deals a non-OSS technology and that to, something
from Microsoft. I've a bunch of reasons.
1. I would like to encourage open discussions on my group. I don't mean
flame-wars - I mean open debates between fellow geeks :-) I've found the
members of this group to be open-minded ..so I hope they carry forward
this open-mindedness to CNUGStudent as well. Just as I've learnt a lot
of Linux from this group, I hope that you can educate the members of my
group about Mono/dotGNU,etc as well as alternative software. Our group
is completely owned and run by Chennai students
2. There are a lot of .NET/CTS software in the OSS world. The most
famous example is probably Mono ( headed by Miguel of Gnome/Evolution
fame). However, there are a lot of other projects out there as well. I
would like to encourage discussion on these topics ("how do I get Mono
running on XYZ Linux distro" is a common question on my group). What I'm
trying to say is that our domains overlap a lot.
When it comes down to it, all of us love software development and are
geeks in one form or another. So why not help each other out and
hopefully learn something in the process?
P.S You'll be asked for a Passport account when you sign up...just type
in your Hotmail account. I have no control over MSN Groups..sorry :-)
