Sometimes, abstraction can be a good thing. It helps in unifying the
diverse bits and pieces that make a linux distro. IMHO debian's
abstraction is just perfect. It's only skin deep and you can always
peek underneath to see what really is going on.
Safety nets are also necessary for mere mortal like myself... afterall
