I installed win 98 once, with yahmaha sound card, and it could never
recognise it and not only that it gave wrong device model, used a
driver absolutely unconnected and it never worked. I had to search
net, get help from others, finally on opening the box I found that
windows didn't detect properly.
We spent hours after hour in installing cirrus logic gl340 card on
windows machine even with vendor supplied driver (on HP machine).
Recently I put hp 4x cd-writer on win2000 system it never recognised
whereas there was no problem with redhat. I could not use samsung 48x
cdwriter even on newer xp/win 2000 without vendor supplied drivers,
whereas my old rh7.3 with cdrecord works fine without installing any
driver from anywhere(real plug and play).
Instead of finding fault with linux why not request hardware vendors
to provide linux driver?? Direct this mail to your sound card
manufacturer.
