The comparison given does not fit.
1. People don't do anything with the statue. It would just sit in a
corner.
No maintanence required.
2. It doesn't have any output and the only input is that it occupies
space.
Not so with software.
3. In the case of software, fortunately and unfortunately, there is no
difference
between the cast and the statue. The software is both cast and statue.
In the case of the cast like most scientific inventions, you can patent
your cast design
for some period of time and collect royalty from anyone using it within
that time frame.
Software is not something like that.
