In my Windoze wxperience, I've had to switch off detect dialtone in most
modems for it to work. Look up equivalent in Linux and guess it should
work.

I have a GVC external 33.6 modem, with RH 7.0. Configured modem with the
RH PPP? tool, it detected the modem and everthing was okay till the time
i tried to dial up my ISP. It was giving the error "Unable to detect the
dial tone..Redialling", this goes on and on, and it never makes the
connection.
what am i doing wrong? Is there some settings that should be included in
wvdial.conf?
