[Ilugc] Debian install from ftp.iitm.ac.in?

well, if you didn't do 'update',  the package file names in apt's mind
and those  on the server wont  match (assuming the  server has deleted
old packages and that your package list is old).

I did do an update! :)

/var/cache/apt/archives/ ?

As in editing sources.list to add mirrors.kernel.org as another source.

*IF*  I remember  correctly owing  to bandwidth  constraints  the iitm
 archives are updated once in a week or so (IIRC). The right person to
 answer would be [Dr?].prabhu or Dr.P.Sriram.
