The best alternative or the only good way to
perform DBI operations would be to use Perl/DBI.
It is fast easy and also cross-platform.
You can use Perl/Tk for the GUI.
But won't a VB programmer be scared of Perl?
Perl: NOT for general purpose programming.
Tcl: GUI and network programs
Python: General purpose programming
PHP: SS scripts
VB: Impress your girl friend, though unusable ;-)
