I've looked at a few options a while back and AFAICT OpenAFS
(
http://www.openafs.org) seems the most robust, stable and documented.
It is heavy duty and not trivial to use but should work. I think that
at this point its your best bet.
Coda still seems to be experimental and the one thing it offers over
OpenAFS is disconnected operation. However, Coda still warns you
saying its experimental.
