Greetings, Sorry for being late in emailing this. I am entirely responsible for everything below, any omission, sarcasm, joke, misquoting, misattribution, etc. are solely my fault and nothing to do with other people attending the meeting. This meeting held on June 17 from 5:30 to 7:45 at DPS (Mr. J P Mathew's office) was attended by the following people: 1. Debajyoti Mallick 2. Prashant Verma 3. J P Mathew 4. Prodyut Roy Chowdhury 5. Suman Ghosh 6. Nirmalya Lahiri 7. Surendra Singhi Unlike earlier meetings held this year, this meeting had lots of technical discussions. It stated of with Mr. Mathew giving us a tour of DPS and showed us the mail servers (running Fedora 2 and Ubuntu Breezy Badger), then he took us to the network room with all PCs running Linux. There was a nice discussion on number of topics with Mr. Mathew elucidating Model-View Controller architecture, and showing a great enthusiasms for PHP. Mr. Lahiri also shared with us his insights on working with PHP professionally. There were also discussions on Open-office, and what kind of policies organizations should have vis-a-vis Microsoft office. Mr. Verma felt that organizations should strongly stick to one, and use it. Also, the ODF and the fact that Open Office is the only word processor supporting it was mentioned. There was also some discussion on open-LDAP, work-flow management, Business Process Language (BPL) etc. It was felt that during each meeting we should have some technical discussion, and hopefully presentations. Also, like a true LUG meeting, the words of Prophet Stallman were quoted and it was felt that only promotion of open source/Linux can help India in achieving excellence in Sciences. Regards, Surendra Singhi
