Hi Michael,
Thank you for the effort! I am using 15.2, only because I just haven't
updated. I should...but I'm not aware of any features that would help,
except perhaps a working move origin! I *really* believe this used to work,
since I've used it for every other board I've done...something weird
happened with this board (as I said, I believe it worked once, then
magically reset it self back to what it was to start with, and I haven't
been able to move it since).
Yes, the SKILL routine Nagaraj and others sent me were a savior!
Regards,
Austin

Hey Austin,
That's weird, it sound like you are doing everything correctly but the
tool just doesn't work for you. The Move Origin X and Y fields always
worked for me and it always would reset to 0.0 after hitting tab or cursor
over to the Y box. After hitting OK to close the form the display is set to
"zoom world" and the final result being that the origin moving as specified.
I tried it on 15.5.1, 15.7 and 16.0 and it works so maybe there is something
with your version of 15.5.1 that is causing the issue. I am running 15.5.1
S045 (v15.5.1-43BJ - 6/27/2006) i86 and it seems to work as expected. Good
thing you have the SKILL code to get you past this in the short term.
Good Luck,

Hi Michael,
If I enter X, then I move my cursor over to the Y box (or tab to it), the
X gets zeroed out, and as I said, the origin stays where it is. I tried
this on another board file to see if there was something screwy with my
board file, same...and I rebooted...same.
I've tried it a few dozen times by now, same results...the origin just
isn't moving. I ran dbdoctor as well, same.
BTW, the SKILL routines work fine for me. I like that I can pick the
center of a pin (which is what I want to move the origin to, so I can escape
that part).
Regards,
Austin

Austin,
The values inside of Move Origin X and Y fields will always return to
0.0 after entering the value but the change in the origin was made. If you
look at the Left X and Lower Y fields before and after their numbers will
change after you entered the Move Origin X and Y. It actually does work and
the Move Origin X and Y fields reset to 0.0 after entering the value can be
confusing.
I would not use SKILL code to perform this task when this functionality
already exists in the tool.
Let me know how you make out, even if you already figured out what was
happening on your own.
Hope this helps,

Hey Austin,
I'm still on 15.5.1 and it works as it always has (as long as I can
remember).
Setup -> Drawing Size., then in the Move Origin section, type in the new
"X" coordinate then hit Enter.
The field returns to 0.0, repeat for the "Y" coordinate. After you click
on "OK", the window closes and Allegro zooms all the way out.
It seems like it would be a good feature to be able to just click on an
element (pad, via, symbol center point etc.) and make it the design origin.
I typically do as you do, show element on a pad or something to see the
X,Y coordinate, write it down and change the origin point as above.

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] reset origin...
Hi,
I want to reset the origin to a pad on a specific part. I know the
location
of that pad by doing a "show element" on that pad. I tried entering the
XY
coordinates in "Setup/Drawing Size/Move Origin" and when I enter the X
(or
Y) value, then click on the other entry box, it zeros out the value I
just
entered. I *though* it worked once...but I can't get it to work. 15.2,
last HotFix.
What am I doing wrong? Or, is there an easier way to move the origin to
a
component pin?
Austin
