No. You are correct. Vias can be attached to pins
in a symbol. I don't normally add vias to symbols
so I had forgotten about this.
This should solve your problem nicely.
And, yes, I am using concept and the structure is
a bit different.

In the allegro part editor:
I have an etch shape that the vias are in, and a single pin is also in the
shape. A cline is needed from the pin to the shape (or maybe one of the
vias) and then i derive connectivity in the part file before creating the
symbol.
In the capture symbol, i just need a pin for each pin in the allegro part.
Or they can be defined to connect to power
or ground in the chips.prt file.
They need to be treated the same is pins.
When you said "vias" I assumed you meant pins.
They need pin numbers to have a definition.
The chips.prt is just a text file and can be
modified with your favorite text editor.
Someone must understand how they work or the
original part would never work.
Hmm... The someone must be allegro or capture, because i am the only one
here that uses this. :)
I think that there is a part editor but I
never use it as I have been using the tool
since before it existed. Maybe someone else
can comment on this.
Are you using Concept? I think that's where the confusion is: i have
capture.
