[PCB_FORUM] Re: replace mechanical pins with vias

Well, they cannot be connected to anything if the
schematic doesn't connect them to anything.
Or they can be defined to connect to power
or ground in the chips.prt file.
They need to be treated the same is pins.
When you said "vias" I assumed you meant pins.
They need pin numbers to have a definition.
The chips.prt is just a text file and can be
modified with your favorite text editor.
Someone must understand how they work or the
original part would never work.
I think that there is a part editor but I
never use it as I have been using the tool
since before it existed. Maybe someone else
can comment on this.
Guys? A little help here.

Don't forget the part about modifying the schematic

Well, that's what i am avoiding by making them "vias" instead of pins.

When do you need to modify chips.prt files? I neve have to touch those...

I have never had to convert mech pins to regular
ones. I wonder if you can change them somehow?

I know it can be done with skill. I was hoping there was a builtin, though.
It won't take *too* long by hand.

I can't check it right now cause I gotta
go have a beer with the boss.
Oh, yeah!

Oh Yeah, is right! :)
