[PCB_FORUM] Re: radial or polar pin placement

Hi Randy,
I done this for 780 pins (Angle=0.46153846.....)
The concern is that Cadence angle accuracy is limited to 3.
I used Excel to calculate every coordinate without cumulative errors.
Just copy/past the result to made a script.
See attached file.

Hi Jean,

Thanks for your response.

This will not work due to incremental angle and accumulated error.  Try it, in my example place 140 pins radially.  You will see that the quadrant pins, 90, 180, 270 degrees are in the wrong place.  this error increases the larger the radius, the higher the pin count.

When you are in the add pin mode, there’s a polar option. You set all the increments, select the center and then the offset (radius of the circular pattern) and I plops the pins down at the right spot

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] radial or polar pin placement

Hi all,

Perhaps there are some of you also doing probe cards...

How do you place a radial array of pins in a symbol?

The system provides a radial copy, with a count and increment.  of course this wont work, due to accumulated error of the incremental method.
What I am looking for, is a function similar to autocad's radial array, where you give it the pin count (140 in my case) and the angle to fill, (360).

This places the objects evenly around the circle of a given diameter.

How do you guys do it?

It would be a great feature to add to Allegro, along with the capability for a polar grid.

Thanks,

Randy
