[PCB_FORUM] Re: footprint versioning... any ideas... Capture CIS system

You could just put the part in the database multiple times with different
footprints associated with each copy and add a "footprint_version" field to
the database. That's basically how we handle it here. CIS allow you assign
multiple footprints to the same part, but judging from your question you
already know how to do that. You are just trying to control which of these
alternative footprints is more "current"?

Perhaps somebody knows a "cleaner" solution?

We use an Access database here too and I wrote code that syncs it to
Digikey's website each night (to get cost and qty on hand at supplier
information). I'd be happy to share that code with any interested parties.

system

We are using Capture CIS and an Access database as the library database...
what I am wondering is how to control footprint versioning... revisions if
you will.

Anybody have any slick ideas? Recommendations? Properties that can be
added and queried later...

Thanks
