[PCB_FORUM] Re: finding line numbers

Yep, I did a update cache but that didn't do anything, I had to actually delete
a few of of the hdrs on a single page. The other pages have similiar headers
and i didn't have to replace them. The only thing i can think of is my computer
takes parts from the CIS database and he doesn't .

Thanks again, board works now so onward we go.
Sam.

Sam
Does the schematic symbol for the pin headers have both the pin number and pin
name attached?

The characters are not the problem. I deleted some 2 and 3 pin headers on a
page and i can now get a board. So i went back to orginal sch and deleted the
same parts and it also works. Still don't understand why the connectors were
giving me problems. I told Eng. to come up with some shorter names. Even some
of the parts have 20 character pin names.
Thanks to everyone.

Thank You Carolyn.
I learned how to come up with net names back in the day when 8 characters was
considered
enough for any situation. This is what I would have come up with back then:

Parentheses in netnames will cause problems - the + and . are probably not good
either. What Shirley suggests is very good.

No wonder! I do believe there are some restricted characters. Someone needs to
let the
person who did the schematic that he doesn't need to write a novel when he
comes up with
net names.
PCIE_X4_P3P3VAUX_FBASEB probably would be better. No special characters but it
still describes the signal.

The net names don't have any spaces in them by any chance?

Group: Seems if i shorten net names the line errors jump to another line. I
thought the net names could be up to 32 characters. Is this true?

Be sure you check the previous line or few lines. Most of the time when it
reports an error on line XXX
it was because the previous line did not have the correct format i.e. ; :, etc

Group: I get Error:Line 334 while running netlist. I know I've done this
before, but notepad, wordpad and words do not give me line numbers. I remember
setting up one of the programs to set up goto. Can someone refresh my memory on
this?

Thanks Sam
