[PCB_FORUM] Re: cadence support forums

Quite a few Cadence Engineers "watch" this forum and are subscribers. I
have been contacted by a few of them. Perhaps Cadence wants to start
their own forum because they are hoping to get more input on what they
can do better on their software for us PCB Designers. Yes, the ICUG
sends them a list every year and there are more of us that are sending
in PCRs and enhancement requests for our software. But typically the IC
designers are the ones who are "listened to" by Cadence because they are
the most vocal lot (I was told this by Cadence), always asking for more
AND a lot of them ask.

My understanding is that a lot of Allegro Users don't have maintenance
contracts. If you don't have a maintenance contract then you can't turn
in PCRs, so the "voice" of PCB Designers is not as robust and loud as
the IC designers (they pay more for their software so they are more
likely to have maintenance contracts). I am just guessing here.

I know Cadence is making a push now to better understand the PCB side of
things and they truly want to do a better job of supporting us (those of
us with maintenance) and continually upgrade our software. As with any
large company the job of support is not going to be perfect for the
Users. So if Allegro Designers want help and enhancements, they need to
start giving feedback to Cadence, our software supplier, as often as
they can, so our "voice" can be heard, and paid attention to.

I believe that is why they are starting their own PCB design forum.

Any of you remember when Cadence ran the User Group a few years ago? :-)

Yes I guess my email was cryptic. As Walter said, Cadence is starting a
new
"list", called "cadence support forums". The new Cadence sponsored
list is
definitely in its infancy; there were a total of 5 all-time posts on the
Allegro section. I was just curious if anyone knew why they wanted to
do
that instead of depend on this list, which although not as prolific as
some
others I have known, nevertheless has been very valuable for the 5 years
I
have been here.

Andy,
I think you misunderstood Patrick. I received an email from Cadence
that
they are starting a support group:

  http://supportforums.cadence.com

I believe that was what his email was about.
