[PCB_FORUM] Re: What is the most convenient way to Flip apieceof circuitry for re-use to opposite

True. I remember the days when I talked to Ed about features like this.
Maybe it will come soon.
Anyway Intercomm can do it now, plus other cool stuff that Allegro Free
viewer can't do. ;-)

Contact me offline if you like to know more about it.

Sounds interesting. But having an Allegro brd file has the advantages
of using the freeviewer - ie, probing nets, pins, comps, running macros,
etc.

Use intercomm to do that. The free version works well for this.

Hi

If anyone remembers the good old days of UniCAD, they will remember a
"view from bottom side".

After I changed companies, and subsequently CAD packages, I lost this.

I didn't really use it but I thought it would be handy for the tech
guys
and engineers in the lab. So I wrote one to create a whole new board
file, totally mirrored.

It worked by clip-boarding sections, negating the coordinates, and
importing them to a new board. At the time I saw that as being the
easiest way. It was slow (surprise, surprise) and it occasionally
crashed (can't remember why) - but it proved a point.

If Cadence isn't going to introduce a similar function, either to
mirror sections or the whole board, then I may be interested in
resurrecting it again. However, I would really like Cadence to do it
-
you have to understand there's a bit of time and IP involved.

Cheers,
Richard

Chris:

So I will be the second or third to concur (including Carl Musetti who
suggested similar off-line), that a Skill routine to accomplish this
would be the first pick workaround solution, second only to a Cadence
Allegro "out of the Box" solution.

1 - I like the windowed approach for cutting a section of circuitry
out
of a section. I would be very impressed if such a utility could be
incorporated into the "File export Sub-drawing utility" as an option
to
the existing methodology and/or adding additionally selected items,
"outside the box" as part of temp grouping. This could be the bonus
solution.

2 - If item one were implemented, a simple mirror (move) routine would
probably be an acceptable solution.

Since this forum thread has been floating around for about a week now,
I
will tentatively take it as an assumption that no one view this thread
to date has such a solution, (As a skill routine.)

It has been a while since I last checked, but could someone point me
to
the Cadence website where they host a large collection of "Cadence
Unsupported" skill routines?

That will be the next place I ping for a pre-existing solution.

We need to get this functionality automated (including full layer pair
mapping and user defined, including multiple via structures, ie. HDI,
and blind vias) core the Through hole vias are easy.

Sincerely yours,

Absolutely Chris!

Regarding the flipped objects getting deleted; I would prefer an
option
to either copy, then Leave them, or move and delete them. ?
Or maybe the skill routine could be invoked After either selecting
edit
copy or edit delete.
Just a thought.

Seems like a perfect task for a SKILL routine. Perhaps something like,
1) draw a box around whatall you want flipped
2) right-click to close the box
3) select from a list of choices
   "top->bottom"
   "bottom->top"
   "cancel"

The routine would snip any etch that crossed the boundaries of the
box.

One subtlety: would you be wanting what gets flipped to then be
deleted
from their original locations or not?

An interesting idea. Good enuff for a paper at the ICU perhaps?
