After trying it out, I found that the variant Bom program is just what
the doctor ordered for multiple model designs.
1. Run Variant Editor from projmgr or Concept.
2. Create alt values and variances along with defining "DNI" Do Not
Install components for the variant boms.
3. Back annotate to the schematic. Either...
a. back annotate to the base schematic or
b. back annotate to variant schematics with the changed values and
"DNI" status displayed at each changed component.
4. Then you can create BOM reports for the original and each variant
BOM's. Along with a Variant Bom Compare report that groups all changes
at the beginning of the report and all DNI components are removed from
the corresponding boms.
5. Then you can export to Allegro (which I have not tested yet) to
assist in assembly documentation as well as Allegro BOM reports.
Just thought I would share my findings.
Thanks for all the input,
Mark

I use it a lot for no load list. I find it quite complicated to setup if
you have multiple variants and Noloads. Some one may have an easer way
but here is what I create by hand.
Common parts All parts get moved from here
LoadedCommonParts All Common loaded parts
(Present)
Varient 1 BOM
LoadedVariant1 Loaded Non Common parts
(Present)
NoloadedVariant1 Not Loaded (Do not
install)
NotStuffedCommonParts Copy of LoadedCommonParts (Do
not install)
NotStuffed 1 BOM
NotStuffed1 No Load BOM Non common
parts (Present)
Stuffed1 Loaded BOM Non common
parts (Do not install)
This carries on for each variant.

Is there anyone out there that uses the Variant BOM to report different
"Do not install" and "different value" Bom's for a multi model design?
We are using V15.1.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Mark
