[PCB_FORUM] Re: Update symbol of older board file takes forever in Alegro 15.2s80 windows version. (what is uprev)

Hi Bob

Yes I have done database check of the board as the first think. Both from GUI
and later from batch mode using uprev.
Yes erverythihnk looks normal.
Thanks for your offer but no I can't send you the files, I have open a case at
cadence, so im waiting to see what they find out.

My board is about 6MB after deleting all copper balancing shapes, that did not
help either.
My PC has 1 GB ram and do not do use the swap disk.
Yes I am working in a networked environment that may be slower than using my
local disk. But in general our network is performing very well. IT gets alarms
automatically when network or servers are overloaded.
We have backend people loading the network and fileservers a lot more than me
and they will scream/take action if the networks and servers do not perform.
This slow down is much worse than the normal penalty for using the network
fileservers.
I think it is somethink in the board file that dbdoctor do not find.

Hi
Peter

Peter,

If everything allegro-wise looks normal, then just out of curiosity....
- Is the allegro brd file and the library on the same system - or are you in
a networked configuration ?
- How many Mb is the brd file ?
- Have you run dbcheck to see if there is some corruption on the database
before running refresh symbols?

Just for comparison.
- I am running on a 2 Ghz machine with 1 Gb ram.
- I opened an 8 layer, 13Mb version14.2 database using Allegro 15.2.
Both versions of allegro are Studio with the "performance option" addon.
- There are about 1800 symbols reported on the board.
- The shapes on the board are all positive and reside on all layers as fill.
The test was done both before and after I converted the Static shapes to
Dynamic.
- My library is 14.2, and it resides on a network branch that is 100 megabit
from me
and has less than a 1ms round trip time when do a ping.
- I ran update symbols and checked all boxes. The request took between 2 and
3 minutes.

What I am thinking is that perhaps:
- You have some sort of database corruption that is slowing down your
refresh
- Or you are over a network that is impacting you
- Or your computer is paging memory to a heavily filled harddrive.
- Or there is a network process (like IT doing a backup in the middle of the
day)

I have run into all these over the years, and they can bring Allegro to its
knees.

If you would like me to run your board on my system, feel free to zip/email
it to me.

until all have been upreved. To run it on a single file it is just uprev.
You will notice that the dbdoctor is also used here.
