These days they are one in the same in the old days allegro used to have its
own router called insight I believe, then Cadence bought Valid which owned
allegro and bolted the PRANCE router onto it, then developed their own router
Prevail which was pretty darn good and canned that and then bought CCT and
bolted the CCT router (Specctra) on it and that was nearly 10 years ago and
they still haven't completely integrated the tool, well at least the way I
would like it integrated. So bottom line here is if you are auto routing with
allegro and you haven't purchased a 3rd party auto router then you are routing
with Specctra.

I have been curious about the auto routers and confused by why there is an
Allegro router and Specctra router. Can someone tell me the difference or why
there are two?

I probably will just stick to manual routing but they would be fun to know more
about and possibly give a try.

Tom,

The auto-router built into Allegro is the Specctra router. Many folks regard
it as the best in the business for auto-routing. In addition to auto-routing
it has excellent interactive route editing capability too. I find that there
are some things I like doing with the Specctra route editor and others with the
Allegro route editor.

Hi George:

The router that is built into Allegro is it a good one? Is it the one they use
in Orcad Layout?

Best regards,

tr :)
