[PCB_FORUM] Re: Shape won't fill

Thanks folks.
I will try these new ideas. Cadence also replied directly to
me suggesting that I break the shape into smaller chunks.
As soon as Allegro gives me the board back I will try that.
I'm hoping that will be real soon now...
I will let everyone know if that worked.

Thanks,
Kevin

We get dynamic shape fill problems a lot on round boards, that is when
the shape fill for gnd is a say 12" circle, with many vias etc...to void
around, like on the outer top/bottom layer.
It does help to break the circle down into 4 pie slices and or sometimes
as many as 8 pie slices, even then you might still get an error in one
of the pie slices, then we look at what the pull back spec is set at,
that is gnd fill pull back from via, pin etc...might be 50 mils, and we
don't know why this works, but it does seem to work, ""simply changing
the pull back spec to something like 49.7 mils vs 50 mils will get rid
of the shape fill error"".

It's not only Cadence, I've had similar problems with Mentor Pads, and
Mentor Board station.

Kevin,
I've had the same problem you are reporting, over and over again, it

seems that Cadence has not been able to get Copper shapes right, regardless of static, or dynamic shapes.

I have come to the conclusion, that when you have a fairly large board,

with many obstacles "vias and pads" the large copper shapes get corrupted.

The solution I use in such situations, is to break down the shape, into

smaller shapes, this at least works, it does take more time, and effort, but it works.

Hopefully if enough customers report such problems, Cadence, would

actually do something about it, and spend the time to fix this pending issue.

I actually just got the latest update sr and it did not
fix the issue. I was hoping that this would be the
solution to the problem, but no. I would love to send
this to cadence to see what they think, but without
maintenance... What are you gonna do?
