[PCB_FORUM] Re: Shape shading?

Mike,

I can help on that. It's a Solaris setting that needs to change.
Default out of the box Solaris should be OK, but I.T. in your company
could have set things up differently on your machine and you
can change the setting yourself. I do this every time the I.T. people
  here update my OS.

   check /dev/fb ->   ls -al /dev/fb

If you have fb -> /devices/pci@1f,0/SUNW,m64B@13:m640
then you can change the setting.

Heres what you need to do as root:

  cd /usr/dt/config
  chmod +w Xservers
  vi Xservers

(go to the bottom of the file)

  - Comment out the ":0" line (it's for 8 bit color)

  - Add a new ":0" line for 24 bit color.
This goes on one line with spaces between each word even though
the email tool here is going to add a return in it.

 :0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -nobanner -dev
/dev/fb defclass TrueColor defdepth 24

Log out and back in to restart the window manager.

That shoud do it. If /dev has nothing resembling what /dev/fb
looks like, send me what you do see with: ls -al /dev
and we can figure out which one it is outside of the email group.
