Frank,
The more time you spend reading someone else's schematics,
the more you appreciate the good ones.
A few of "Nice to Have's" on a schematic are:
- Inputs on the left, outputs of the right.
(for symbols, and the page in general)
- One source for an off page connection,
to many destinations. Not the other way
around.
- No upside down components (rotated 180)
- Label important signals. (Clocks, Diff Paris)
- Set a grid, and stay on it.
- Notes and Labels for important blocks, also
for high voltage and isolation. Keep in mind
that not everyone reading the schematic will
hold an engineering degree. (Don't assume
the reader will know your intentions)
- Print it out a 11 x 17 paper.
Is it still legible?
If not fix it.

Mike Finczak

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Re: Schematic drafting practices
Hello Austin
No I didn't mean all Eng's
Years ago I did train Eng's on how to use PCAD MD
Schematic Capture and I did see some Eng's
who were outstanding in their drawing style
while others sucked real bad. It's funny
though as it's their/your language to communicate
their/your intentions. Something like the English
language some are masters and some speak pigeon.
Thanks group for the replies and suggestions, keep them coming.
Over time I plan on compiling the info I gather
and create a booklet of best practices
and boy I don't have to go far for samples
of graphic pictures of "Do's" and "Don'ts"
Cheers
Frank
