[PCB_FORUM] Re: RoHS and PCB Re-Work

Hi Jeff:

I will use a new soldering iron tip, a roll of lead-free solder, compliant
no-clean flux and compliant spray flux remover and compliant solder braid.

If I have to change a smt 0805 resistor and the assy. is RoHS than I will
have to buy a RoHS Lead-Free replacement resistor.

The name of the game here is "due diligence".

tr :)

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] RoHS and PCB Re-Work

Hello All,
The question here has come up about what to do with repair or re-work of
RoHS compliant PCBs. After doing some research, it appears that the
consequences
of using one solder composition in manufacturing and another in repair
and re-work are
unknown. It is believed that mixing lead free alloys can lead to
unreliable solder joints.
Do any of you have any comments ? How are you handling this situation ?
Thanks,
Jeff
