[PCB_FORUM] Real-Time DFA (Allegro 610) and Design Partitions (620)

Carl,

We were using Allegro Expert (VT2200) on Solaris..
The so called "Legacy" Allegro products.

The upgrade path for the Allegro Expert folks
is to move to Allegro PCB Design HDL 610.
The upgrade product number is PX3700UG4.

I am not sure what the cost would be to upgrade
from Allegro 220 but basically the way most of
their upgrades work is the difference in cost between
the lower tier tool to the higher tier tool is the cost
of the upgrade.

In our case the delta in price between Allegro Expert
and Allegro PCB Design HDL 610 is a little over 20K
so that is the list price of the upgrade,

You will need to contact Cadence sales to work out the
details and maybe you could get some sort of discount
to make the move. One thing to remember upgrading is
only the first step then you have to be able to afford the
cost of yearly maintenance which will go up with the
higher tier tool..

Design Partitioning is a whole other beast, you will need to
move to Allegro 620 to take advantage of the Design
Partitioning and you will need a minimum of two seats of 620
to get this to work. In other words, once a design is partitioned
you will only be able to work on its partitions using a 620
license. Here again there will be a jump in maintenance
for this added functionality.

Overall, there is clear benefits to make the move to at least
Allegro 610 seeing that it is bundled with the Auto Router (Specctra)
and Design Entry (Concept/OrCAD) which means you could
drop maintenance on Concept/OrCAD or Specctra to offset the
Allegro 610 maintenance increase so the yearly cost evens out.
You may be able to leverage the stand-alone router / design entry
tools to get a higher upgrade discount as well. If you could justify
the upgrade cost/maintenance of Allegro 620 that we be even better yet.

Hope this helps,
Mike

One thing to note, the New DFA tool is only available
if you are using Allegro 610 or higher. We just upgraded
our current Allegro licenses to Allegro 610 so we can
get the functionality.

I was under the impression that 15.5 was going to have a spreadsheet like
constraint tool for parts placement, that would allow the designer to have
different rules for different part types and would be "live" like the
routing DRCs... not post placement batch driven.

Is this not the case?

I agree. This would be really useful.

You can define parallelism in the CM, but I believe I'm correct in saying
it doesn't DRC in real-time. (Can someone verify this?)

I also take it you mean for edge-coupled and not broadside. (I thing
broadside would be a whole new can of worms.)

SLIDE WORKING WITH PARALLELISM CONSTRAINTS
What's the list's opinions'?

Don't think so, but have not checked sourcelink this week.

The list below seems to be complete
