I've used both toolsets, as well as several others. My thoughts:
Allegro
- pros : Specctra Autorouter, front to back SI Integration (if
you can afford the complete "Expert" toolset), Library management
- cons : about 10x the cost of the Altium tools
Altium
- pros: complete toolset for a very competitive price, nice
SQL-like constraints interface
- cons: nothing beats Specctra
Keep in mind that the target markets of these tools are different,
Allegro being geared towards larger companies with dedicated roles and
support personnel (userware, libraries, etc.) whereas Altium is more in
the "shrink wrap" market - geared to companies where the Engineer does
the VHDL code, Schematic, PCB Design, Simulation, orders the parts, etc.

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Pro's / Con's
Good day users!
I have been asked recently about the Pro's and Con's of Allegro against
the New Altium Version 6.3. Any of you out there had the experience of
seeing the the Altium PCB product.
With that said I like the ability to Pinswap an FPGA backannotate it to
the schematic and then go right into Verilog very quickly has my
attention.
Pro's/ Con's anyone?
