Why not use the ODB++ format? It has the same information embedded.

Painful! Way too painful. See the attached file (.asc inside the .zip
file) for an example of the PADS database. Even trying to create a 'like'
file using Extracta would be difficult, if not impossible. I've done these
"PADS like" ascii file before with assy houses using a tool (script file,
actually) from Aegis.com called CircuitCAM. Very much like a PADS file, as
output goes, and is something the assy should be able to use. If you can't
find it from Aegis, let me know. I think I have it on a disc somewhere. I
might even see if I can get it loaded on a web server somewhere. Works
great. It's easy to use, and should give you the results you and the assy
folks are looking for (it's simply an ascii output of the allegro
layout... ref des, x-y location, silk, orientations, etc...)
