David,
No experience with USB / parallel port devices but have found
that USB / serial port devices do not work with many programs.
The problem is that the software sees a USB device and not
the serial port.
I purchased a PCMCIA / Serial port card. All my programs
see this device as a true serial port. The same is probably
true programs requiring a parallel port.
You can purchase new PCMCIA and Express card serial
port devices new $60-100 USD. If you can wait a few weeks,
they can be purchased on eBay for as little as $9.99 USD.

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Parallel port dongles with laptops or PC's without
parallel ports
Hi List
Has anyone got any successful experience of using a FlexID 8 dongle with
a parallel port add on such as USB, PCMIA, PCI32 card
or PCIe card?
I am concerned that it is not possible to use an add on port and get it
and it's driver to look as if it is at a normal parallel
port x86 address such as 378.
Best Regards
David Greig
