[PCB_FORUM] Re: Package symbol for odd part

This is what I have done in the past to speed up the process.

    •

Create the component like normal using a oval plated slot (235 x 78 Drill / 393
x 236 Pad).
    •

Place the symbol on a blank design (.brd)
    •

Trim the pads per the spec using Tools > Pad > Boundary (set grid approriately
to make your left easy)
    •

Use File > Export > Libraries to extract the updated padstacks / shape symbols
and make sure to check the option "Shapes and flash symbols"

This process will generate a Shape symbol that can be used in the existing
padstack for the copper pads and duplicated to generate an enlarged version
shape symbol used for the solder mask or anti-pad apertures. You could create a
round thermal using the tools in the shape editor and stretch it out to make it
oval.  I would use stitch vias inside of the oval pad boundary in the symbol vs
pins but pins could be used as well.

I am not saying that Man has a wrong approach but I just have a different one.

Hope this helps,

Hi Eileen,

Here is how I would do it:

-           Create 2 round shapes for 2 ends of the oblong.

-           Add a rectangle shape between the 2 rounds to fill in the middle.

-           Use Shape/Merge and turn those 3 shapes into 1 oblong shape.

-           Same technique, use 2 circle and 1 rectangle voids to create the
oblong void.

-           Use rectangle void at one end to create the little trim.

-           For holes, use Add Pin and select copy mode POLAR for the ends,
angle set at 36 deg.

For anti pad, just create an oblong shape and use it in your padstack. For
thermal, I will the add shape with combination of line & arc to create the
broken shape.

Have fun!

Hi,

Any one happens to have package symbol for Allegro ACS758 to share?

If not, kindly advice how to create the odd shape with the small drill holes,
also the thermal and anti-pad.

I'm using Allegro 16.01

Thanks in advance,

Em
