There is a way to hide the entry in the part.ptf file. {} will comment out
lines, the librarian will see them but the DE's cannot.
However that will not solve a problem of a particular part entry being needed
for production designs.
At the end of our design cycle, the Board is Archived so that all of the parts
are still good for that design. That way even if the parts
are deleted from the Library they can be used from the archive copy.
You did not indicate what you mean by OBSOLET parts. Are the parts themselves
no longer available from the manufacturer
or is there an Error on the LOGIC or PHYSICAL that requires the parts to go
obsolete?
We also have an OSOLETE folder where we put things that are removed from the
Library but there is no way for anyone to
put that folder in their Library path. We found that some people were using
OBSOLETE parts because they liked the way they
looked better and then complained when the pinouts were wrong.

Shirley,
On the front end side, we move obsolete parts to an OBSOLETE library. The
OBSOLETE library is not included as a default library for new designs. For
active designs still needing to access the obsolete parts, they can modify
their cds.lib to access the OBSOLETE library.

How is everyone obsoleting parts from the library. Some of these parts are used
on production boards, so removing them from the library is not an option. Is
there a way to hide the entry or freeze it so it can not be picked off the
menu? What are you doing????
We are on 16.2 and do not have CIS.
