Well, the main reason as I see it is the corners.
Corners are kinda bad. The solderpaste can
get stuck in them, and tendrils of metal can
grow from them. People have argued on and off
about the corners versus radius issue many
times over the years. In my opinion, I would ask
your assembler which they prefer and go with that.
They, ultimately, have to solve any problems
coming up from your pad design. I have used both
and have not gotten any thanks or damnation from
using either one.
