I have been using xp since a reclaimed my allegro seat a year
ago and have had virtually no problems. At least with xp, anyway.
The problems the other folk have seen have been no-shows on
my system. I have a dual xeon with a gig of mem. And some
other stuff, of course. I would whole heartedly recommend
going to xp. It is newer and seems very stable. I haven't
had any crashes either. The only time I had a problem was
right after our sysadmin installed some hotfixes. And
those were networking problems.
Otherwise, it has been better than I would have expected
of a Microsoft product.
My 2 cents.
