I'm doing a bunch of translations with this tool right now, and it's pretty
good.  All the Allegro entities are generated ok, including two types ref
des, package assembly, package silkscreen, board outline, etc.  The pours
are static shapes which have not been voided, just all shorted out, but
still correct outlines, etc.  The only time consuming issue had to do with
footprints and padstacks, sometimes naming multiple instances of the same
footprint by different names.  Same with padstacks, sometimes identical
padstacks in different orientations had different names.

I hope they have upgraded the translator.
When I tried this a couple of years ago at a previous employer, it would
have been, or was (I can't recall correctly) more work than starting from
scratch.  I apologize for not remembering any specifics.  I can't even
remember if the contract price had to be increased or we lost money in the
venture.
If it is not to much of a bother, please share your final experience with
the current OrCAD Layout to Allegro translator.

Cadence has developed an Orcad Layout to Allegro translator.

It will take a Layout .MAX file and create an Allegro .BRD file.  

The tranlators can be found near the bottom of the page at the following

PADs and PCAD translators are built in, but I don't see anything for
Orcad Layout.  Is such a translator available?  

And why in heavens name if they "sell" Orcad, doesn't Cadence make this
a "standard" like the other translators.
