[PCB_FORUM] Re: ODB++ Translator : V7 / V6 Specifications

Dave,

I spoke with Valor support and they indicated that if you decide to use
version 8.0.0, there is a switch available to force output of a version
6.x file. Do you have any experience with that? We're rather new to
the ODB++ world.

Hi Dave,

The brd2odb.pdf file for version 7.0 should contain a list of new
features and fixes from 6.x.
We are using 7.6.7 without a problem. I think if you are keeping up with
Allegro releases you need to be using a very recent brd2odb release.
However, 8.0.0 is no good for many current CAM tools (including older
releases of Valor). Your vendors probably won't be able to use it.

I joined the Valor Open Systems Alliance (OSA) program to get a copy of
the specification - It's free but requires some comprehensive paperwork.
Sorry, as part of the agreement, I can't pass it on to you.

Cheers, Dave

        Does anyone know where I can find a listing of changes between
        V7 and V6 ODB++ data? Would also like to obtain the ODB++
specifications for each if they are available.

        I'm using the latest ODB++ Inside translator and we're having
some difficulty with downstream input translators, thinking it may be
related to changes in the ODB++ format.

        Thanks,
        Dave
