I've attached the ADW datasheet, it also has a "Where-Used" function, I would
suggest you ask Cadence for a product demo to see how all the features work.
For the "SRM" (Symbol Revision Manager) this is the general idea:
The Symbol Revision
Manager Process
The Symbol Revision Manager (SRM) verifies the physical
Allegro model placed in a board drawing against the revision in the reference
library.
Model revision management is applicable to footprint models.
Here's the basic flow:
The SRM basically looks at
the rev of the footprint symbols in the reference library and compares that rev
against the rev that we store on the placed footprint in the allegro db.
If the ref lib has a newer version, the SRM allows you to upgrade to the newer
footprint in the reference library. (This is all controlled through a SRM GUI)
If you decide to upgrade, then SRM saves the current footprint into storage in
a local directory
and then performs a "refresh symbol" to pull in the latest footprint
from the reflib.
Then it puts a property on that symbol to indicate it's current revision.
If you decide to roll-back, then SRM swaps out the updated footprint on the brd
with the one that was put in storage.

You
can a library report, that will tell you where the parts came from, if they
show a path, other than your designated lib path, such as another board file,
or the working directory the board file is in. Then that would alert you why
did they do that, it might be modified part.
But
I don’t know of any way to tell for sure, and or what was changed, unless the
person before you was nice enough to leave a doc, notes file.

Can you be any more specific? How, where you open it, what menu
button, etc… is it a report you run?

Cadence Allegro Design Workbench
supports this functionality.
