[PCB_FORUM] Re: Linux & SPB15.7 and 16.x

Hi George,

I've been using 2000 for about 7 years, and admittedly there are inherent
attributes within that I just don't like. Although
having said that you do get quite a lot for under $150 oem, including free
patches for years!
XP has a UI that I find less usable than 2000. System wise, both XP and 200
have far to many networking quirks, security is
vulnerable, and there are also issues with USB enumeration. Microsoft seems to
be moving away from providing something that can
be configured as a bare bones workstation without a high garbage payload. Vista
might be the best thing that's ever happened for
Redhat/Novell!

The last time I looked on sourcelink (last week) there was no mention of RHEL5
or SLES10.x on the roadmap document.

Best Regards

David:

We have been on XP for about 4 years without OS problems. Why do you conclude
that XP is not suitable? We haven't evaluated
anything on Vista yet, so I can't comment.

For 2007, they are supporting RedHat RHEL 3 and 4, SUSE SLES9 and 10, Win XP or
Vista.
In 2008, they are supporting RHEL 4 and 5, SLES 9 and 10, XP and Vista.

Hi List,

Has anyone any experience of running SPB on Redhat RHEL5 Workstation?
(Redhat recently brought out version 5)
I'm moving from Win2k to something that's going to be supported by the major
tools, and my conclusion is that XP/Vista are not
suitable for engineering workstation use!

Best Regards
