One problem with this is that if you swap in a different component you lose
the ability to move the module AS a module. It becomes an unrelated
collection of parts and traces that you can't move as a unit. It sounded
like this was one reason for having the parts defined in a common construct
in the first place. This would be the same problem as using a clipboard
file.
If this isn't a problem, I see no reason why you couldn't do swap as you
suggested, but it would be a lot easier to save a clipboard file to do it as
suggested by Stephen.

I guess I don't understand.
If I place a module with several symbols it still has individual
symbols, right?
If I have a schematic with all of the same components defined
in it so I get a refdes for each component in the module then
I should be able to assign each of those refdes's to their individual
components. I don't need to call the module from the schematic,
I just need to place the module as one piece and then assign
the refdes's as required. Is this wrong? I can't see where it
would make any difference.
If you do it as you say, it makes sense, but that isn't an option
for the viewlogic user.
For them they would just place and wire up the same pile of stuff
each time or copy it from one schematic to another as necessary.
Am I missing something?
