sometimes shapes aren't the same and padstacks will need to be updated. But if 
its a new board then import > pads > *.asc

.asc I believe.  Again, you need to do an ASCII out form PADS and then an 
import PADS in Allegro.  You can simply go to import/PADS and see what 
filenames it's looking for.

Thanx Austin,

Luckily, this will be a brand new Allegro database, so I won’t have to 
transpose any existing layout data.

Can you tell me the file name extensions exported from PADS Logic? For example, 
.dat, tel, etc…  or does it even matter?

Allegro can import PADS ASCII files.  It comes in pretty well.  I did a few 
boards last year using this.  Shapes had to be redone, and some other 
stuff...but it really was pretty good.

Has anyone had experience importing a PADS logic schematic netlist into 
Allegro? I have a potential ( and very much needed) new customer that would 
have some steady work for me if I can do this.
