[PCB_FORUM] Hspice model

Hi all,

Tool : Spectraquest 15.2

Question : Is it possible to simulate PCB with Hspice models?

If so which type of models it can accept (Hspice, Hspice net list, etc.)?

Regards,

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Re: DxDesigner to Allegro...

...but they are happy to take my money!

Would you please share these?

Of course, those are simply attributes. I consider that a part of

netlisting...since they exist in the netlist file.

I agree. Here is my dilema. I have been using DxDesigner/ViewDraw for 15+

years. I have a LOT of parts built, so schematics are easy and fast for me

to draw. Both because of experience and available parts. I have used PADS

for 15+ years also. Because of the new Mentor license "scheme", I am not

willing to pay Mentor any more maintenance, and I already own a Performance

tier of Allegro. That brings up a problem.

The DxDesigner to PADS interface is quite good, as it has support for

crossprobing and decal preview and full constraint support. I can live

without decal preview, and there is aftermarket support for crossprobing.

But, another choice is to just bite the bullet and learn Allegro Design

Entry (ConceptHDL). I had someone re-do a large schematic in ADE, and we

compared the two packages. They are pretty much the same functionally, but

go about the same thing differently in some cases...and there are some

advantages each have over the other. But, if ADE supports crossprobing and

decal preview and constraints manager, then I'd use it...but another

problem arises. The Performance version of ADE does not support

Constraints Manager, but Allegro PCB does...and it is a good tool, and it

is necessary (to me) to pass these constraints from the schematic. So,

DxDesigner has better facilities for entering constraints (Attribute

Manager) than the version of ADE I have. It is $10k+ for 610, and for that

one feature, forget it. Big missing feature in DxD output is pinpairs, but

I do believe I can add that attribute my self...but that's another story,

as it used to be supported, and was removed (instead of fixing it) from

both the DxD to PADS and DxD to Allegro interface.

So, I am trying to decide what to do about this, and I'm leaning towards

keeping the latest version of DxDesigner that I have a non-expiring license

for (and they really don't update it much)...though I am also trying to

convince Cadence to include Constraint Manager as part of ADE

Performance...or at least allow an "upgrade" path that does not involve the

purchase of a full new 610 seat. I have a translator, and I can simply add

attribute passing to it, so I would basically have the same functionality

as the Mentor product for zero dollars...except no back annotation, which I

don't use anyway.

So, that's my dilema...sigh.

Austin
