Michael:
May I suggest a few more things, some of which have already been
suggested by others.
From some of the previous replies, you are likely aware that you can
select items by find filter selections, visible layer settings, temp
groups, formally named groups, etc.
In addition to that you have selectibility by properties so you can
further refine your selections in very capable ways above and beyond the
manual picks mechanisms.
I use highlighted nets all of the time, and at will, so much so, that I
am looking forward to seeing this capability incorporated directly into
Allegro application 16.0 and beyond (which will include Open GL
graphics, more colors, colors by - Layers, Nets and hopefully
Net_Classes, AND stipple patterns). As I understand, these are
selectable modes of regular color views, rather than a highlighting
methodology.)
For my situation, I will typically highlight 100% of my nets based upon
their Net_spacing_type properties assigned to the nets. Where I work, we
do this in a structured fashion where the net_spacing_types are applied
to all of the nets in the design based upon their electrical behavior.
As such, it is a simple task to highlight all nets in a particular color
by a particular N_S_T property. Some CAD tools already support this
style of color view: so it is a happy day when we can see these feature
enhancements, that we like so much, imminently available in the Allegro
engine.
At the beginning of every new product design, I will apply the net_type
rules, and check it twice. Then I will go about creating a macro where I
highlight all of the nets based upon the N_S_T property, using intuitive
and contrasting colors.
For example, Net_spacing types: GND gets highlighted green, dc_supplies
- red, clocks - white, diff pairs - grey, digital - blue, analog-orange,
fast_switching_digital - baby blue, TLs - pink, etc.
Once this macro is created, I will also have at my disposal another
macro that will dehighlight the features, in the way I choose. For
simplicity of use, my macro de-highlights everything.
These macros are then assigned to a function "word" in my personal env
file settings.
As a result, I can quickly flip from a layer colors mode, to a Net_type
color view, and back again at will, with simple function commands. Now
you can press the EASY button.
It works for Me ! :)
Enjoy. Take all of the good, none of the bad, and kindly excuse me for
explaining anything that you may already know.
Sincerely yours,
Michael Baumstark

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] How to make different colors for different nets
Hi Group,
I have seen some allegro database which had different highlight
colors for different nets. It seems highlight was used. You know, in
some condition, it's easier to make the layout clear by using different
color for different nets. I'm interested in how to do it easily in
allegro. Could anybody help me?
Thanks,
Michael
