Ideally it should be possible to create shape symbols for mask, pad and
paste and then use pad designer to create a padstack using these shape
symbols.
 
Unfortunately there is an innate rule built in that prohibits saving a
shape symbol that consists of more than 1 shape. Andrew has one method
that will work, but would be nice if the tools would be a bit more
flexible. Another way would be to add mechanical pads with paste
apertures within your original heatsink pad while within symbol edit.
 
That said, it probably is one of the most flexible platforms. Just wish
that some of the silly rules would disappear.
For example, why does zcopy not work with lines and text, why not make
it work with anything? Why not make the full suit of edit and shape
commands work within all drawing types?

Ed, 
You would need to create a new subclass within the symbol, say, in
Package_Geometry/Paste_Top, and put the geometry there. 
It will come into your design when the symbol is placed. The catch is,
you need to add this subclass to your artwork control manually. If you
don't put it there, it won't be output.

You can just add the shape to the symbol on etch > top. When you import
the part into you're board file assign the shape to whatever net you
want and drop in some vias. You can include the soldrmask and pastemask
in the symbol. 
 
This does not require a ninth pin to be added to the logic symbol.

Sorry - didn't mean to seem unfriendly 

First, I generated the unique pad shape with the Allegro editor... 

Start new 
enter a unique file name 
select drawing type - Shape symbol 
in the editor - go to Shape add polygon 
draw the shape 
save (Important - make sure the Setup Drawing Parameters is set to Type:
Shape) 

Open padstack editor 
go to layers tab 
select each appropriate layer and change the geometry to shape (under
Regular Pad) 
pick the nav button beside Shape and find the unique file name you
assigned to the pad shape 

This still leaves a problem in my symbol. It has 8 pins and the heatsink
adds a 9th pin. This means I have to add another pin to the schematic
symbol in order to tie the heatsink to the appropriate same net pins.

How do I generate a polygon Heatsink solderpaste pad? The symbol editor
accommodates copper and soldermask but no solderpaste. Is this done with
a custom padstack? If so, how do I generate the polygon padshape so that
I can import it into the padstack editor?
