[PCB_FORUM] Re: Gerbers to placement file

I think it's great that there are some solutions for things like this
and the
previous posting on panels.

I just question why anyone is using Allegro as a CAM tool.

Please no flames. ;)

Only way I have seen this done in the past is to:

* Import the gerbers with the pad targets on.
* Create packages that correspond to the pad and silkscreen
locations (or use existing packages), using the BOM if you have one.
* Substitute the packages where they belong
*       Extract the placement.

Rather time consuming, but time is money :)

        Hi Everyone,
I have an interesting question (which I will be posting on a
couple of forums so some of you may see this more than once)....
If all I have is gerbers can I make a placement file from them?
I don't need a netlist just x - y coordinates... I am hoping someone
else here has been faced with this situation before and can point me in
the right direction.
        Thanks in advance,
        Dharma
