Hi Mike,
I had thought of that but you are right it would be pretty time consuming
and prone to error and guesswork with some pad layouts...not that any method
isn't going to be a pain. Its a thought but as a last resort I think, Thanks
though! Sometimes I would agree with you on the toughies then I hear stories
that make my mountains seem like molehills. :-)
Thanks,
Dharma

Sounds like it would be a tedious chore. Couldnt you overlay top
silkscreeen and top layer and assume that anywhere
there is a surface mount device that the center of the component
would be the center of the pad definition? Two pins
center of those, rectangular or square would be the center of the
diagonals or corner pins. Any thru hole devices then
pin 1 is the origin. You could then do the same thing for the bottom
side. Without a netlist though Id think your kind of
stuck doing anything automated. You seem to get all the
toughies.....
thanks,
Mike

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Gerbers to placement file
Hi Everyone,
I have an interesting question (which I will be posting on a couple of
forums so some of you may see this more than once)....
If all I have is gerbers can I make a placement file from them? I don't need
a netlist just x - y coordinates... I am hoping someone else here has been
faced with this situation before and can point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance,
Dharma
