[PCB_FORUM] Re: Gerber question inches vrs english and other things....

I worked in Veribest (forever) and occasionally had to re-capture boards
done in Cadence, using gerber and drill as input. Seemed to run into scale
factor problems all the time . Read it in via GERBTOOL 8.0.2. Obviously off
and an easy fix, but curious, huh?

If I recall right, 274D artwork and aperture tables were usually out of
sync by a factor of 10. I always figured it was a gerbtool issue, since it
was output from the great and powerful Cadence....

They were Imperial, not metric...

Regards,
-Chris

Nah, first thing I always do... I was called once a long long time ago due
to format mismatch... so that is not the issue.

They are both set the same.

Mitch, I think you've got it. In the drill format, there are no decimal
places, and the magnitude of the number is determined by number of
digits, significant or otherwise. Matching output format between drill
and Gerber should solve this problem.

Hi Gene,

Have you made sure that the "format" setting is the same when creating
gerber as when creating the drills? I always check that. If you're
outputting the gerbers using 2,4 format, make sure you're artwork
setting
is also 2,4. Or, if your setting are 2,3 or 5,3 or 3,5 or whatever).
Just
make sure they're the same. I've had the fab house call and ask me to
verify the outputs, since another designer messed up and output the
gerbers at 2,4 and the drill at 5,3. That could be your problem.

Good day.

Mitch
