[PCB_FORUM] FW: Export IDF / SolidWorks

        Jeff,

Not sure if anyone responded to this or not.

As far as interfaces with Solidworks, there are many but the
best way if via IDF. SolidWorks
can import IDF files from Allegro.

There are two different settings that you can chose when
exporting IDF files, one is IDF and the
other is PTC. With IDF chosen the output files have a .ldf and
.bdf suffix. With PTC chosen the
output files have a .emn and .emp suffix. The .emn file has the
board outline and mounting hole
data and a separate section with placment. The .emp file has
length, width and height data for
each package that is placed on the board. This data is from your
place bound on your .psm.
There is also a filter that can be used so that you can control
features that you want exported
        to the idf files.

I believe that in SolidWorks there are two ways that part
placement can be read in. If there is
a Solidworks part already defined it reads that in, if not, it
uses the xy and z data from the
.emp file to build the part. I would think that if the part is
already defined it may make the readin
        to SolidWorks run quicker.

        Hope this helps.

        thanks,
        Mike

What file type interfaces with SolidWorks? IDF? Also, what Allegro layer
is used to create the component body?
