We have a user-defined property called "stuff", that is attached to
components in the schematic and carries a string (text) value with it. You
have to define that within the Allegro database and enable it to be
transferred between Concept and Allegro by pxl, which is part of the project
manager setup.
We use a variety of values for it, depending on what we want done with the
part:
No value = normal stuffing ( default, makes schematic creation simpler)
Stuff = "debug": Engineering-only part. Appears in the BOM block on the
assy drawing, but with an "Eng Only" comment. Does not appear in the BOM as
loaded into the MRP system.
Stuff = "no": No-stuff, "do not stuff", whatever you prefer to call it.
Does not appear in the BOM block nor the MRP BOM.
Stuff = "post": Post-process part, like certain kinds of hardware that are
added after the wave-solder step, socketed ICs, etc. Appears in the BOM
block, MRP BOM, etc., and gets a "Post Process" note in the BOM block.
We could also very easily add other values like "smt", "wave", etc., if we
wanted to automatically distinguish different process steps.
We then have a set of Perl scripts that extract the BOMs, P&P data, etc.,
from the database, collate it by part number, side of board, etc., and
output in various formats as required.
I'd also point out that the BOM scripts ignore anything with a blank
PART_NUMBER field. Thus, things like mounting holes, card-edge connectors,
that appear as schematic entities are automatically omitted from the BOMs
since they're part of the board artwork, not added components.
...hope this helps...

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Do Not Populate ?
Hello Everyone,
First off we are using 14.2(s132) on WIN2000 (Concept HDL and
Allegro Designer). My boss asked a question about something I'm not very
familiar with so I thought I would see how the rest of the world handles it.
What property do you attach to the Concept HDL schematic for a
do-not-populate part? Does this automatically transfer over to Allegro?
They don't want it showing up in the BOM nor any pick-n-place data. Thanks
for any help.
