Richard:
I have noticed the same problem on 15.2 as well, except you can move
_anything_ there (vias, clines, other shapes...) and have it happen
randomly. This has mainly happened to us on large boards with lots of
nets and lots of dynamic shapes. I haven't heard of it happening on
15.51, but we are only now rolling that out to most users due to
conversion issues with large hierarchical/module designs.
I haven't turned in an issue on it because I can never get it to repeat
so Cadence could see the problem in action and debug.
Linda:
Although your forums are fine for browsing, they don't lend themselves
to the quick answer possible on an email forum. I can't speak for
everyone on this forum, but I don't have time to log into your forum
just to answer a question a user asks or to confirm another user's
observation.
If you ever get your forums functioning like this one, where I can dash
off a quick message and get back to work, they will get a lot more
traffic. It is inefficient to have to do a separate log in and reply to
and to reply to a message in a web window. And I am sure many Cadence
employees who were previously allowed to be on this forum would agree if
they were allowed to. IMHO, you are doing your customers a dis-service
by operating your forums in a web-only mode, but I know that is not the
primary consideration.

Richard,
Please post this note to the PCB forum on the Cadence user community at
www.cdnusers.org. Cadence engineers monitor that site and will be able
to both see this issue you are raising, and respond.
Linda

Subject: [PCB_FORUM] Disconnected vias from planes - different problem
Hi all
I've possibly found a new serious problem with shapes. I can't find the
exact problem in the archives, so I thought I'd throw it to you all
before I submit it as a bug.
We have a board with several negative shapes. Upon sliding a via, all
the shapes that either are in contact with that via or void around that
via, immediately become 'out of date'. It happens randomly.
Eg, it could be a GND via I am sliding, but all negative shapes around
that via effectively disappear, leaving only its outline. This leaves
thousands of unconnected vias, ie unconnected nets.
That's not the problem. The real issue is that any stitching vias on
these shapes are now disassociated with any signal. Updating shapes
will NOT work. The stitching vias now have a dummy net, and will stay
that way. (By stitching vias, I mean only those from shape-to-shape.)
Funnily, if you catch it soon enough, an undo will rectify it!
We're using 15.5.1, latest ISR, etc. We also really need to keep
negative shapes, due to the size of the designs.
Any clues? Has this been reported before?
Cheers,
Richard
