Double-check the steps he mentions in the rest of the comments after his
initial link. He forgot a file you have to add.
Then make sure you follow all of the steps in the readme file in the downloaded
zip.
You have to run 15.7 or later for this to work as well…

Thanks very much Bill. Hope you don't mind a question. Dave has been advising
me on installation and use, but I keep running into one more snag, and I think
Dave has gotten too busy to help me. I was wondering if you had seen this or
know what setting I've evidently gotten wrong. Thanks for any advice! Below is
the question I sent to Dave:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you! I got it to show in my "Place " menu: Place -> Bitmap Images, but
when I click on the Bitmap Images menu, I get this error: E- *Error* strcat:
argument #1 should be either a string or a symbol (type template = "S") - nil
So I'm still doing something wrong. Any info you can provide would be greatly
appreciated. Apologies for the hassle - I've never added a menu item, and
usually just use the out-of -the-box Allegro with no additional skill programs,
so I'm struggling a bit here. Thanks again.
Hi Alexis,
That's good.
It won't appear in your menus unless you add it to your allegro.men file
yourself.
This is the line that I put in our menu file:
MENUITEM "Bitmap Images...", "logomaker"
Cheers, Dave
Thank you, yes, my skill path was incorrectly updated. Now that I've fixed it,
I can see that it's loading the logomaker code. So my next question is under
which menu can the Place Logo button be found? I'm looking in "Place", but not
getting any clues. Thanks again for your help, this is a great program.
Actually you don’t need DXF anymore. Dave Elder posted a BMP/JPG import
routine on the Cadence Forum
You can find the thread here:
http://www.cadence.com/community/forums/T/10154.aspx
Just follow the instructions and you’re off and running. It does a fine job of
importing JPGs on to your board.
Enjoy
I think this has been discussed here before, but can’t find the string. It’s
been a long time since I’ve had to do this, so can’t remember the tricks. I
have a new company logo in .eps,.tif, .jpg, and .bmp formats. I need .dxf,
.idf, or .iff in order to import to Allegro. I asked our ME’s to import the
various formats into SolidWorks, and then export a .dxf from there, but the
resulting .dxf is problematic. I’m getting a lot of errors having to do with
polylines and mtext. Any clues? Thanks in advance.
