General Theme of Release 16.0
A major effort in the area of usability drives the theme of OrCAD PCB
Editor 16.0. A shift towards an object-action editing paradigm, color
and visibility improvements and integration of Physical and Spacing
constraints into Constraint Manager lead the list of enhancements.
A new pre-selection editing model, sometimes referred to as noun-verb is
based on first selecting or hovering over a design object(s) with the
appropriate action commands available on the Right Mouse Button (RMB)
menu. Built on top of this new editing environment is the introduction
of application modes; a customized working environment designed to
increase productivity and efficiency in intense applications like
interactive routing or bus planning.
Most backend products are now integrated with a new graphics engine
called OpenGL. The color and visibility graphical user interface has
been revamped to now include 192 colors. User controls customize the
level of transparency providing improved visibility through the board.
Constraint Manager continues to evolve as the cockpit to manage all
constraints and properties across OrCAD PCB Editor product. The
migration of Physical and Spacing constraints to Constraint Manager
brings a level of consistency across all constraint domains (Physical,
Spacing) with respect to hierarchical constraint resolution, use of
overrides and net object references to constraint sets. Each constraint
domain supports common hierarchical objects such as Net Classes, Buses,
Diff Pairs and Pin Pairs.
The new Net Class object supersedes the former net_type property and is
capable of supporting both hierarchical and net level members. Also new
is the constraint region which supersedes the former constraint area.
The region object aligns with the existing model used in SPECCTRA for
OrCAD. New constraint object methodologies utilizing explicitly created
relationships bring promise to significant data reduction. Prior to
release 16.0, constraint relationships were auto-generated contributing
to assignment table overgrowth.
OrCAD PCB Editor product is supported on Microsoft Windows VistaTM
Enterprise and XP Pro. OrCAD PCB Editor 16.0 is not supported on Windows
2000 OS systems.

OrCAD PCB Editor doesn't support Constraint areas :
Check the feature list at the end of this document :
http://www.cadence.com/datasheets/7432_PCB_Designs_FINAL.pdf
Constraint Regions are available in Allegro PCB Performance option or
above.

EMA has not provided an ISR that I know of yet. As an EMA-EDA customer,
I'm denied access to Sourcelink. :-(
EMA has been working hard with me for a few weeks (un-successfully thus
far) to solve a couple of the issues though.

Dale, did you download the latest ISR? I couldn't create PDFs without
crashing, till i installed the isr.

Group,
I'm having trouble finding information about constraint areas in Orcad
PCB Editor 16.0
Seems that the help file has nothing but a quote about it in the "What's
New" for Orcad 16.0!
I can create a constraint area shape, but I cannot get a rule made for
it in Constraint Manager.
Has anyone been able to make this work yet?
Also, is it my imagination or what, but it appears that there is a lot
of bugs in 16.0 that need to be taken care of still? I can't print
without crashing, I can't export tech files, many links to the help
system don't work, or take you somewhere un-related. Hmmm.
